Of the technology used
This website is made with Jekyll, using a custom style carefully crafted by yours truly.
If you want to know the details of my process (or sausage making as I like to call it), the site is generated statically and the resulting files are uploaded to the server (meaning the server does not run Jekyll).
Of the staticness of this website
I am proud to say that this website is fully static. No PHP, no Python, no Ruby or other CGI, and no JavaScript. There are also no access to external resources and no cookies. In fact, I regularly test it in a sandbox with external domains and JS blocked to see if it runs smoothly.
Why is that you may ask? Because I care about the comfort of this site’s users. To me it is undeniable that most website on the internet right now are atrociously un-ergonomic, to the point of being barely usable.
I do not want that, and committing myself to creating a perfectly static website is also an ideological statement: yes, you can provide content on the internet without harassing the user with dozens of trackers and buggy client-side code.
Of sponsorship, advertisement, affiliated links and other conflicts of interest
I hereby declare en mon âme et conscience and on my honour that:
- I do not benefit from any sponsorship or partnership whatsoever, with any company, school, laboratory, or other public or private institution;
- I do not and will not put advertisement on this website in any way, shape or form, whether using banners, frames, or directly in the text of my posts;
- None of the many links to external resources present in the pages of this website are affiliated link. If one day a link brings you to the page of a product or service costing money, I do not perceive any benefit from it;
- My prose is not subjected to nor influenced by any organization, public or private. This means that nobody has its say w.r.t what I am writing except myself;
I would like to emphasize that this website is run by me and me alone, and that the costs of hosting it and renting the domain name are covered by my own private funds, as a personnal expense.
I also want to make very clear that the views and opinions expressed on this website are, unless expressly stated, my own. Nobody but me is responsible for what I say.
Note also that I do not engage myself in providing unbiased opinion, as this is merely impossible, especially for a website that I use to share my ideas.
Another very important point: having no partnership does not mean I will refrain from talking about certain topics (e.g. languages or other technologies), just that I will talk about it freely and with no counterparts.
So, when I say Haskell is the best language in the world and y’all should use it, I do not get anything from it.
Also, the freedom I get by having as few ties as possible does not mean everything you will find on this website is sincere or truthful or whatever. You are the only judge of that, I cannot vouch for myself.
Of licenses, use of external material and other credits
The content I use on this website, unless expressly stated of course, is my own.
The entirety of the original content of this website (text, code, images and other medias) is made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) License.
This means you can freely share it around, use extracts of it for any work, public or commercial (e.g. for citation), under the only condition that you cite me as the author.
Also, I would be glad to know of anyone using my content in another setting, so feel free to mention me if and when you do so!
Regarding the content that is not my own:
- The CC icons (as seen a few paragraphs above) are provided by the Creative Commons website;
- The background image I use is courtesy of Toptal (no author mentioned);
- The GitHub Octocat logo found in the footer of the site is the official one provied by GitHub;
- The Twitter logo found in the footer of the site is the official one provided by Twitter
Of content warnings and the dangers of navigating this website
On this website I might post whatever comes through my mind. I am trying as much as possible to be consensual and not go too political, but given my culture and my way of life, I cannot guarantee I will never touch on delicate topics, knowingly or not.
In case I deem one of my post to delve into sensitive topics, or more generally if I feel it may be unsafe for some people, I will indicate it in the beginning of the post or of some of its sections using “content warning” (or “CW”).
My goal is not and will never be to make people feel uncomfortable, excluded, unsafe or generally bad. I am human, so I might make mistakes; but mistakes can be fixed, can’t they?
If you found something on this website that made you uncomfortable or that you think should be indicated in the list of CW, or even removed/amended for any reason, please fill free to send a mail to the complaint address.
I promise you that I will sincerely consider your request, and react accordingly.
